Less hay acers across America More demand for high quality hay Increased fuel prices (as you pointed out) Fertilizer Storage Seed Time Chemicals Equipment Land THATS WHY, us farmers are not "gouging" our fellow Americans. We are working hard and spending a lot of money and expect a profit. Get over it.

Ever hear of the biggest hay shortage in history? Do you think tractors and balers run on water? Ever consider that everything associated with farming is petroleum based? fertilizer, electricity, fuel, and transportation. $2 a bale was the price in the 1940's. You guys don't want anything but green leaffy cow hay with no mold. We call that horse hay!!! I don't mean to be rude, but he who does not take advantage of a market condition in his own industry is a damn fool. We have waited years for this market condition. You complain, but you could have prepared for a winter and bought that bale of hay for $2 this fall. Just my 2 cents.
