Here's some additional information from a Good Samaritan who has been helping us
fight back against hay scammers:
The vast majority come from Nigeria but some come in from Israel and
occasionally from Great Britain. The current one started in Nigeria and
he now must be on vacation as they are now coming from Israel. The table
shows a couple other cases of the sending IP moving around. This is
another way I can track individual scammers. There is a small possibility
that occasionally the scammer 'hands you off' to another scammer in
another country using the same e-addy. I had that happen once when I
became 'difficult and demanding'. I could tell from the wording that
I was suddenly talking to someone new, and the IP had shifted .
I currently have between 15 and 20 counterfeit items from 'scamming the
scammers' over this last year or so. At one time I milked the same scammer
with 3 different messages (different e-addys) at the same time. Eventually
they become smart to the fact that they are sending the junk paper to the
same physical address and stop responding. I have found that they tend to
keep track of the e-mail address that you use, Mailing Name, physical
address and phone number. They always want those last three items before
issuing their bogus funds. It appears that they often try the phone
numbers using a service for the handicapped called an IP Relay (Google it
for more information on IP Relays) and drop you if you don't give them
a number that rings.
My philosophy is that the only way to punish them is to take them up on
their offer and then waste their efforts so they might get discouraged
never knowing if they are going to send their expensive counterfeit without
any gain. The most effective technique is to get their fake stuff (and
some of it is exceptionally good) and then immediately tell them that it
was deposited and the bank will not take it because it is counterfeit.
This leaves them scratching their head wondering how the hell the bank
found out so quick and fearful of another contact since *they* know it
*is* counterfeit. They do not harass you since you are 'innocent' and
'unknowing' and it's the bank that stops the deposit. If every hay seller
responded to each and every scam and strung them along until the 'IT IS
COUNTERFEIT!', the scammers would very quickly give up on trying to bilk
hay producers. However, knowledgeable sellers avoid the bait and it ends
up being the naive ones who bite. .... and a few of us who fight back..
