Hardseededness
- A physiological condition of seed in which a proportion of viable seeds do not immediately absorb water or oxygen, delaying germination.
Hay
- Entire hergbage of forage plants, sometimes including seed of grasses and legumes, that is harvested and dried for feed.
Haying
- The harvesting of hay.
Haying hook
- Tool used to handle bulky bales of hay. Also called hay hooks.
Hay loft - The upper story of a barn used for storing hay.
Hayrick - A mound, pile, or stack of stored hay.
Haystack - A mound, pile, or stack of stored hay.
Haying season
- The time during the year for cutting and drying and storing grass as fodder (haying).
Haylage
- Product resulting from ensiling forage (pasture or crop material) with about 45% moisture in the absence of oxygen. Usually the air has been evacuated forcefully, as in an airtight, glass-lined silo, rather than by compression of the stack. Also see silage, ensilage.
Heifer
- A bovine female less than three years of age who has not born a calf.
Herb
- Any vascular plant that does not produce a woody stem. cf. forb .
Herbaceous
- Not woody; soft in texture.
Herbivore
- An animal that subsists principally or entirely on plants or plant materials.
